Our 2007 DVD/Video at nearly 2-hours of playing time is packed with good solid growing information on giant pumpkins. We cover a lot this year on plant pruning and covering vines. The 3 types of growth at each leaf axil are examined up close and in detail. Each structure is identified and a grower will learn when and how to either prune out a specific structure or let it grow.
We demonstrate how to install a 40-foot heavy duty soil warming cable. Actual up close and live action shows the proper depth and spacing, examines the built in thermostat, and even shows a simple way to protect the above ground electrical plug.
See Joe Jutras take pumpkin growing to a new level with his spectacular 1,689-pound new World Record monster weighed in at Topsfield Fair. We have coverage from Cooperstown, New York with Joe Pukos and Bill Bobier, and show new records at Half Moon Bay, the Puyallup Fair and Paso Robles, California. We interview Pete Glasier with his new California State Record and coax growing tips from some of the World’s best growers.

HOLLAND’S LAND O’GIANTS 2007 SEEDSTOCK
1,384# : 405” (1,142 VanKooten X 1,161 Holland) This was a long, wide, light-colored pumpkin that weighed just about right on the chart. The plant had very aggressive vines and excellent root development at each leaf axil. This pumpkin was a new “personal Best” for me weighed at the Half Moon Bay competition, placing 2nd.
1,289#: 402” (1,231 Pukos X 1,347 Wallace) This was a nice orange pumpkin that had excellent late season growth. The plant was very green and healthy right up to harvest. This pumpkin went somewhat light, but was crossed with a pumpkin that had very thick walls. This one placed 2nd at the Paso Robles, California weigh-off.
1,161#-’07: 372” (1,112 Holland X 1,231 Pukos) This was a very solid, light –colored fruit, that was trouble free and set a new site record at the Pumpkin Palace weigh-off in Orting, Washington. It went 83-pounds over the chart.
937#: 346.5” (634 Fillmore X 995 Holland) It was a beautiful, bright orange pumpkin. The 634# Fillmore came from my 1,134#-03. The healthy plant rooted well and the pumpkin had no stem or cracking issues. This fruit went 64# heavy.
936#: 362.5” (1,086 Holland X 998 Pukos) A 1,086 seed won the National Japanese Weigh-Off. My plant was an aggressive grower and produced a blocky orange pumpkin. The fruit however, weighed light by 62#.
898#: 361.5” (931 Miller X 995 Holland) The 931 Miller can produce white or orange pumpkins. The white ones go heavy, and the orange fruit tend to be light. Mari Lou got a bright orange pumpkin that did go 92# light.
862#: 342” (723 Bobier X 1,231 Pukos) This was a buff-colored pumpkin that was very blocky. It was harvested early for the Puyallup Fair on September 7th. It went 22# over the chart.
DAMAGED PUMPKINS:
1,212#: 387” (1,347 Wallace X 1,142 VanKooten) This was my largest pumpkin until it blossom-split in late August. It was very tall and wide, with good orange color. It had 8”-11” walls everywhere but right at the blossom.
1,157#: 381” (1,161 Holland X 1,142 VanKooten) This pumpkin was shaped and colored exactly like my 1,223# that won at Half Moon Bay in 2006, off the 1,161. It stem split at the end of August, after a heavy rain.
